Serving on a nonprofit board involves more than just attending meetings and strategizing. One of the board members’ most crucial actions is demonstrating their commitment through financial contributions, especially during annual and capital campaigns. When they contribute financially, it significantly impacts the tone of the entire organization.

Think about it: when board members donate to a cause, they genuinely believe in the mission. It builds credibility and can inspire others to give, too. This is especially crucial during capital campaigns that require big bucks to bring a vision, like a new community center, to life. If board members are invested in the mission financially, it sends a strong message to potential donors that they should be, too. 

Let me share the story of Bob, a successful businessman from Begenerous. He learned firsthand the difference it makes to lead by example. Bob went from just talking the talk to walking the walk, and in doing so, he sparked a wave of generosity that transformed the lives of children in need. The lessons he learned are a perfect reminder of how vital board giving can be!
